Born on the west coast but raised on the east, a Law graduate but a teacher of English, a Sunderland supporter but an English Schools’ rugby selector – Graham Wilson defies categorisation. So does his writing. This is reflected by the diverse titles on his backlist which contains, among others, a collection of short stories, an investigation of Shakespeare’s left wing tendencies and a socio-historical analysis of English rugby and why it rarely fulfils its potential.
However it is for his books on walking and climbing that he is best known. Climbing Down was The Guardian’s Travel Book of the Week and A Rope of Writers was shortlisted for the prestigious Boardman/Tasker Prize.
